Quick Ways to Verify Your Proxy IP Is Active #
After configuring a proxy, you should verify that it is actually working. Here are several simple and effective testing methods to confirm your proxy IP is functioning correctly.
Method 1: Use an IP Lookup Website #
After enabling your proxy, visit any of these sites to check your current IP address:
- ipinfo.io — Shows IP address, geolocation, and ISP information
- whatismyipaddress.com — Detailed IP info with map location
- ip.sb — Clean, minimal IP display page
What to look for: If the displayed IP is different from your real IP and the geolocation matches the region you selected for the proxy, your proxy is working.
Method 2: Test via Command Line #
Test an HTTP proxy: #
curl -x http://username:password@proxy-ip:port https://ipinfo.io
Test a SOCKS5 proxy: #
curl -x socks5://username:password@proxy-ip:port https://ipinfo.io
If the response includes the proxy IP’s information (IP address, city, country), the connection is working correctly.
Method 3: Use the Built-in Test in an Antidetect Browser #
Most antidetect browsers (e.g. AdsPower, VMLogin) include a built-in “Check Proxy” or “Test Connection” button when configuring a proxy profile. If the proxy IP’s geolocation is displayed, your configuration is correct.
Method 4: Before-and-After Comparison #
- Disable the proxy and visit ipinfo.io — record your real IP
- Enable the proxy and visit the same site again
- Compare the two results — the IP addresses should be completely different
What to Check in Your Test Results #
| Check Item | Expected Result | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| IP Address | Different from your real IP | The basic indicator that the proxy is active |
| Geolocation | Matches your selected proxy region | Confirms the correct region was chosen |
| IP Type | Matches what you purchased | Residential/datacenter/mobile should display correctly |
| Connection Speed | Page loads normally | Confirms the proxy is usable |
Common Questions #
Q: The test still shows my real IP?
A: The proxy is not active. Check your settings and protocol. See Proxy Not Connecting? Troubleshooting Guide.
Q: The displayed location does not match the region I selected?
A: Some IP databases have geolocation inaccuracies — this is normal. If the discrepancy is large, try regenerating the proxy.
Q: The proxy is very slow?
A: Try switching to a proxy region closer to the target website’s servers. Datacenter IPs are generally faster than residential IPs.
